Ask ten owners how much they feed their cat and you will get ten answers. The honest one is that it depends: on weight, on age, on whether your cat spends the day patrolling the garden or the windowsill.
Start with weight, not the bowl
Every Anees pack carries a feeding guide, and it is written against body weight rather than bowl size. A 3 kg adult cat and a 6 kg one are not on the same diet, even in the same household.
Weigh your cat rather than guessing. Stand on the scale holding them, then again without, and take the difference.
Adjust for how they spend the day
An indoor cat that sleeps eighteen hours needs less than one that hunts. Our wet food guides give two columns for exactly this reason: one for low activity and indoor life, one for normal activity. Start in the column that matches your cat and watch what happens over a few weeks.
Kittens are a different question
A growing kitten eats far more for its size than an adult, and the amount changes month by month. The kitten guides are set out by age rather than weight because of it. Follow the age band, not the adult chart.
Change food slowly
Whatever you are moving to, mix it into the old food and shift the balance across a week or so. A sudden change upsets most cats’ digestion, and you will end up blaming the food rather than the speed of the switch.
- Fresh water available at all times, next to the food and somewhere else too
- Weigh out portions for the first week rather than eyeballing them
- Check in with your vet if weight moves quickly in either direction
Every Anees product page carries its own feeding guide with the exact amounts for that food. Find your cat’s weight in the table and start there.
